You know more French than you think

You may understand French when you read it, but spoken French can feel completely different. Words run together, familiar vocabulary seems to disappear and native speakers appear to be competing in an Olympic speed-talking event.

That doesn’t mean you are bad at French. You simply need regular listening practice at the right level.

The Listening Lab helps you practise in manageable steps, without feeling overwhelmed.

How it works

01

Choose your level

Start with the level that feels most comfortable. You can always move up or down.

02

Listen and complete the activity

Each recording gives you a clear listening focus, so you are not simply pressing play and hoping for the best.

03

Check and build your confidence

Use the transcript, translation and supporting vocabulary to notice what you missed and understand why.

A better way to practise

The Listening Lab is for you if…

  • You can understand written French more easily than spoken French
  • French speakers sound too fast
  • You want structured practice rather than random online videos
  • You would like listening materials suitable for your current level
  • You want to practise independently and in your own time
  • You are learning French for travel, conversation or personal enjoyment

Meet your teacher

Created by an experienced French teacher

I’m Barbara Allen, the founder of Lingua Forme. I’ve been teaching French to adults and teenagers for more than 15 years.

I created the Listening Lab because so many learners tell me the same thing: “I can understand French when I read it, but I can’t understand it when people speak.”

The Listening Lab gives you focused, level-appropriate practice to help close that gap — one manageable recording at a time.
